Bio: Sheriff Cal Hayden is a seasoned leader. He has extensive experience as Sheriff of Johnson County, Kansas, a position he has held since his election in 2017. From the outset, he pledged a solemn oath to the citizens of Johnson County, vowing to prioritize their safety and well-being through a transparent administration which upholds justice while adhering to the rule of law and safeguarding constitutional principles.

Born and raised in Johnson County, Sheriff Hayden’s roots are deeply entrenched within this county. His journey into public service commenced in the United States Army Reserves and later the United States Coast Guard Reserves. Transitioning seamlessly into law enforcement, he acquired invaluable experience with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado before returning to his home state to join the esteemed ranks of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in 1981. His career spans 36 years within the Sheriff’s Office, and he has learned the intricacies of the District Court system, excelling in various capacities, includingundercover operations, patrol duties, and high-ranking leadership roles. His ascent to the rank of Sergeant in 1987 and subsequent elevation to Lieutenant in 1997 underscore his profound leadership acumen and unwavering dedication to duty.

Sheriff Hayden also has a distinguished record of community service, including serving on the boards of the Consolidated Rural Water District #6 and #7, past member of the Northwest Consolidated Fire Department board of directors, and past president of the Northwest Consolidated Zoning Board. He was elected to serve on the Johnson County Board of Commissioners, 6th District.

Sheriff Hayden’s lifelong commitment to serving the public, with public safety as his #1 priority, solidifies his standing as a revered and trusted leader in both law enforcement and civic engagement.
